At last, 'tis a post!

So. Some of you may have heard, for the past week or so I was in Freiburg. Freiburg is in the Southwest corner of Germany and is very close to the Schwarzwald (Black Forest), die Schweiz (Switzerland), and Frankreich (France). I stayed with another family while I was there.

On Sunday we drove into the Blackforest and visited 'Silbergrube Segen Gottes.' (God's Blessings Silvermine.) Work first began in 1562, mining ceased in 1786, and in 1997 excavation began and finally in 2004 the mine was opened to the public.

The fading light...
Heres a mineral pocket on the side of the tunnel wall.
The tunnel roof, that red stuff is rust coming out from the ore content in the rock.

A segment of the tunnel.

This is a pit that the miners used to search for ore. Its 10 meters deep (~32.8 feet) and is filled with water.

An old cart that was used in the mine.

This portion of the mine was left unexcavated. Mud filled up about 2-3 feet and rusticles (not the real name) formed.

This photo was shot looking straight upwards. This was a vertical shaft that I believe was for ventilation and transport...

Same shaft but now from the top.

Those lanterns were originally here.

End of the tour.

Afterwards... we had Subway!

The next day, we were in downtown Freiburg. This is from the bell tower of 'Das Münster' or the Cathedral.

Looking down at Münsterplatz.

A view of Freiburg.

Another view in the other direction. That tower there is Martinstur. Thats the next stop.

Ah-ha! McDonald's @ Martinstur.

A German BigMac? Oh noes!

This was in Breisach, a border town on the Rhein. Across the river is France.
Where the mother of my second host family works. A winery.

That placard on the winery house. It traces back to 1587

The vinerard.
And a tower in the vineard.

The local drinks market in 'Waltershofen.' This is also the town postoffice.

And we had a visit from the Easter Bunny. We weren't very interested in the easter eggs, as the bunny was made of chocolate...
Bwahaha-

On the way back. It shows just under 180 km/h but we did get past 180. (Thats about 112mph).

Whew that was a long post. Bis später.
